Gua Sha Workshop at Sage!

Come to Sage Community Health Collective to learn about this powerful healing tool and gain a skill that you can use for the care of yourself, your family, and your community.

Gua sha (or spooning) is the centuries-old practice of applying pressure and friction to the surface of the skin usually with a smooth-edged spoon (or other therapeutic tool) to release toxins held in muscular tissue, invigorate blood and lymph circulation in specific areas of the body, relieve chronic muscle tension, and more.

It is often used for treating chronic migraines and headaches, neck/shoulder/back tension and pain, colds/flus, and more.

Gua sha supplies will be provided at the workshop. Those attending should wear tank tops and bring a scarf for covering up afterward.

If you have an interesting/challenging case to bring in, please feel free to bring in as much background and diagnostic information to share with the group.

The goals of the study group are to help develop a community of people in Chicago interested in qigong and to deepen our understanding of qigong, principally through reading and discussion. You do not have to have a high level of experience in qigong. The organizers met at Eva Wong’s qigong course at Shambhala. The study group will be independent of any particular approach to qigong.

At our first meeting we will introduce ourselves, discover our common interests, and decide how we want to go forward. We antcipate meeting on a monthly basis and centering our meetings around discussion of agreed readings. Some themes that we have considered for readings include connections between qigong and alternative medicine, the history of qigong, and surveys of qigong practice.

The meeting will be held at the Sage Community Health Collective, 2514 W. Armitage Suite, 205. (Buzzer “sagejen.”) This location is two blocks west of Western Ave. The entrance is on Bingham Street.
