Come to Sage Community Health Collective to learn about this powerful healing tool and gain a skill that you can use for the care of yourself, your family, and your community.
Gua sha (or spooning) is the centuries-old practice of applying pressure and friction to the surface of the skin usually with a smooth-edged spoon (or other therapeutic tool) to release toxins held in muscular tissue, invigorate blood and lymph circulation in specific areas of the body, relieve chronic muscle tension, and more.
It is often used for treating chronic migraines and headaches, neck/shoulder/back tension and pain, colds/flus, and more.
Gua sha supplies will be provided at the workshop. Those attending should wear tank tops and bring a scarf for covering up afterward.

For July’s TCM Roundtable Discussion, we will host an informal discussion for practitioners and students to share experiences around starting, growing and sustaining thriving TCM practices….reflecting on what we have been prepared for and what resources we have yet to build/share.
This month’s discussion is part of Sage’s larger intention to support/create community amongst TCM practitioners.
We welcome donations to support Sage’s work to make TCM care affordable and accessible!

What: Each month, Sage Community Health Collective will host a roundtable discussion where TCM practitioners and students can come together and discuss interesting cases and share perspectives/resources.
Who: Steve Bonzak, L.Ac will be our guest facilitator for the first June roundtable. Steve is a faculty member and clinic supervisor at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. He has done extensive training in Shang Han Lun herbal medicine. For more info about Steve – check out his website at www.health-traditions.com
We will rotate guest facilitators at each of the monthly roundtable discussions — bringing in a variety of practitioners with different experiences, training and areas of focus.
How it works: This is meant to be an informal discussion to help create dialogue and a network of support and resources for our TCM community. If you have an interesting/challenging case to bring in, please feel free to bring in as much background and diagnostic information to share with the group.
***You do NOT need to bring in a case to present to participate in the roundtable. We will probably have time for a few cases in the 2 hour discussion.
Contact info: To RSVP or with questions/suggestions – please email us!
Suggested Donation: We are asking $5-$25 suggested donation to support Sage Community Health Collective but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. On May 1st, we opened our people’s wellness center – offering accessible, sliding scale, bilingual TCM services. Thank you for your support!
Sage Community Health Collective is hosting the first meeting of a new Chicago Qigong Study Group!
When: Sunday, May 22 at 3:30 pm!
Where: Sage Community Health Collective, 2514 W. Armitage Avenue #205, Chicago, IL, 60647
The goals of the study group are to help develop a community of people in Chicago interested in qigong and to deepen our understanding of qigong, principally through reading and discussion. We hope the study group will also become a place to network, share, and meet people with similar interests. Everyone interested in qigong is welcome. You do not have to have a high level of experience in qigong. The organizers met at Eva Wong’s qigong course at Shambhala. The study group will be independent of any particular approach to qigong.
At our first meeting we will introduce ourselves, discover our common interests, and decide how we want to go forward. We antcipate meeting on a monthly basis and centering our meetings around discussion of agreed readings. Some themes that we have considered for readings include connections between qigong and alternative medicine, the history of qigong, and surveys of qigong practice.
The meeting will be held at the Sage Community Health Collective, 2514 W. Armitage Suite, 205. (Buzzer “sagejen.”) This location is two blocks west of Western Ave. The entrance is on Bingham Street.
