SMART® stands for Self-Management And Recovery Training. Our mission is to offer self-empowering, science-based, face-to-face and online support and educational groups for abstaining from any substance or activity addiction. There are currently over 650 meetings worldwide, and 19 online meetings.
Here in Chicago SMART has three meetings in the immediate area.
Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Bethany Retirement Center, 4950 N. Ashland and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan.
We have a new meeting Sundays at 9:15 a.m. starting October 14th at Sage Community Health, 2514 W.
Our program is abstinence-based and uses a variety of tools and techniques. If you or someone who know is considering abstinence, or even not sure, you are welcome to attend several SMART Recovery® meetings in order to gain an understanding of the program and to strengthen your motivation. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Meetings last 75 minutes and are designed to be highly interactive. We begin with a check-in, which involves personal updates on progress, and then we discuss the tools and 4-Points and have a check-out at the end.
If you know anyone that is looking for help in abstaining from any type of behavior, please let them know about SMART®. We are also always in need of more facilitators as ourmeetings are quickly growing in size and we could use more meetings here in Chicago.
